Second Life: End of #Neet-Life – The Second Coming | also: torrent tracker announcement

I’m doing an internship again. This time a bit closer to home, literally and figuratively. The target company in question is in dire need of hotline workers and I can sit at a computer all day and not get bored, so this is perfect for me. The internship started on Monday and will conclude on Friday next week (3/16/18). And I think this time I’ll do all of it and not abort after half of it.

I don’t know that for certain, though, since factors outside of my control (other employees, the boss) could still turn me. But since there are reasonably good chances I’ll get a job after the internship is over, my bank account really hopes that I’ll stick to it.

And if I’d do anything for anyone, it’d be doing this for my bank account. It’s very punished. It got drained dry and then I decided I needed to spent more money. What’s it gonna do, invent a giant shiny money tree to pay for my stupidity? No, no, no. That’d be enabling me, and it’s a good little fella, not an evil enabler.

I think I got a bit off track there.

Anyway, so far so good, the internship is quite interesting up until now. On Monday I was shown most if not all of the tools the hotline people work with, and how they use them. Yesterday I spent all day with one dude trying to figure outfiguring out how to add the newly required checks for the customer’s nagios system. And today I did my first bit of hotline work. And I got to fix up my new torrent tracker, so that’s great as well.

We’ll see what the next 7 days deliver.

If anyone wants to use my tracker to share files, just add udp://schmelle.me:7070/announce when you create the torrent. It’ll work like a charm. At least it should. Email me at sirconanad [at] cock [dot] li if you’ve got problems. Or email me if you don’t have problems, I’m very lonely, please talk to me.

End of #Neet-Life: Part 5 – Beloved Memories of Printers Passed

It’s over.

You have no idea how relieved I am I can finally write these two simple words.

Not that it was too hard. I wasn’t really challenged any of the previous five days vacuuming in and around printers, using spiritus to clean them (and occasionally sniff on it) and collect all the paper my colleague used up and/or filled out and carry it around. This is another thing I did all the time. Carrying heavy equipment and saving my colleague time, pain, patience, money and nerves.

Looking back my initial feeling of “I don’t want to do this” was absolutely justified. I didn’t come around to love printers. I got to enjoy the time spent with my (now former) colleagues, they were a crazy and funny bunch of guys, but I didn’t enjoy any of the juicy work bits. Which my colleague pointed out may have been due to the fact that we mostly took quick repair jobs, and that there weren’t any opportunities to dig into a device for six hours to find the one little moving part that’s causing the problem. Which sounds awesome to me, to be honest, but this week at least it couldn’t have been really good because I wouldn’t have been the one to do the digging. And considering I know jack shit about industrially used printers I wouldn’t have been the one digging deep into the insides of dirty, perverted printers for at least a couple of months.

So I said goodbye to all the lovely people at the company, most of them in person, even. (Not the boss, though, he wasn’t present when I left. Even though he said to me in a phone call that he wanted to talk to me before I left. (…) Look, I don’t know.) Then I drove to McDonalds, ate a huge meal consisting of 20 Chicken McNuggets, a big bag of fries and a large coke. And after that I went to the gym. That had no relation to McDonalds, however.

Next week will be pretty easy going, I only have on appointment one Wednesday because my new car needs fixing again, but other than that I’m free as a bird.

See you soon, I guess.!

PS: Yes, I know this should have come out sooner, but I needed my time to write something that’s not utter and complete bullshit, so please bear with me on this one.

End of #Neet-Life? (Part FOUR) It’s almost over, THANK JIM STERLING!

That’s right, I’m only doing half the internship because printers can’t officially suck my dick because only awesome things can suck my dick. Like Japanese onaholes, which I’m gonna get en masse if the other internship following this nightmare whatever this was.

Now, I’m not quitting because I didn’t like the company. The company was fine. The dude who took me to customers and showed me how he repairs fucking printers was fine. The other dude I was with also was okay. But the printers, man… the printers just took all the fun out of it. Also, it’s way too much driving around. I like helping people with IT problems, but I prefer to do it over the phone or email. Not that I don’t like getting my hands dirty, I’ll dig into any old computer/printer/server/whathaveyou I can get, but I wasn’t allowed to do that and also there’s always a clock ticking because customers NEED THEIR PRECIOUS PRINTERS NOW and you can’t accidentally break it and get away with it. Just like that one time where I broke my boss’ network and took the whole company offline for 90 minutes, that didn’t have any consequences at all, no sir, no, I’m just only doing helpdesk now until forever because I feel like it.

Sorry, I lost it there somewhat.

Tomorrow is my last day, and even though it’s definitely not a job for me it’s still kinda sad because I had at least something meaningfull to do with my time. Oh well.

End of #Neet-Life? Part 3: Resignation

3 days in, 7 days left
So today was only half a day because I had a job interview at 2pm, and I had to leave at 1pm to be on time for that. So I only got 5 hours of printery things to report on. And the last hour didn’t have anything to do with printers, it was just the two trainees and me watching Rick and Morty. The German synchronization of Rick and Morty. Which is awful. I could feel my ears bleed. One of the even acknowledged how bad it is, but still didn’t change to English. I had to watch Justin Roiland videos to clean myself afterwards.

That was a lie. I didn’t watch any JR videos. I talked like Rick in my head while I was driving to the job interview.

In English, of course. Who would talk German in Germany? Fuck that.

Before the awful part I joined another printer repair guy and helped him replace a printer at a doctor’s office, and then started to help him repair another printer at another company that I forget what they make. It’s not important to my or your life though, unless you work with iron or steele or something like that for fun. Leave a comment if you want me to look up the location on Google Maps.

I say “started to help” because I had to leave when we were halfway through because I would have been late for the interview. That went well, I guess, because they also invited me to do an internship, and they might even pay me. So that’s good news? I have to get up at 5am for that, so eff them, really.

Also before the interview could begin I had to fill out a questionnaire about how I feel certain words reflect my personality. That wasn’t brought up though, and I think I failed that. Either I was too honest or too contradictory or too fake. We’ll see where it goes.

This seems like a good place to stop.
